Martin’s thoughts on May 8th Event
there was a very interesting mix of people there last night – a representative form the city of chicago, a couple of people who wanted to sell us on their services (of course!) but mainly, a group of entrepreneurial self starters like ourselves who have felt shut out of the system or have had difficulty fitting in within it. Without getting all mushy, it changed almost in an instant for me last night – I realised that the A.D.D. generation has been drugged into (at least outwards) conformity or pushed to the side, difficult to teach, disruptive.
That’s EXACTLY what we need right now, the free, pinging off the wall, THINKERS and do-ers. A successful radio dj was shut out of one school program because he couldn’t read music, a tattoo artist with his own shop and an x-box hacking side-line concerned about our admission requirements (none – I left school when i was 16) A 14 year old artist just wanting to get involved, a union iron worker, intrigued … and embraced by all, representatives from different cultures and genres.
In short, it turns out, a new home, a family, a crusade.
