Baltimore Recap Pt. 1

In amongst an interesting weekend, I’m trying to pull out just one thing that was a learning experience, I’m not sure if that’s possible, its all an accumulation of stress, good stuff, bad stuff, hours without food, hours without sleep. Something that’s easy at 2pm in a well lit room can be very difficult in a dark room with no sleep, diarrhea and a couple of beers….and, don’t try to think your way through this – just absorb, just think………..unscrewing the mounting clip for the RCA cable at the kitchen table with a flashlight and a cup of coffee – EASY, same thing in the middle of a moonwalk using gloves with fingers the size of a half used kitchen roll – DIFFICULT. So, from now on, lets think of the act of touring – either in its effects on the body or brain, just like being in a space suit. OK?

My love of the Deadliest Catch as an example of work ethic was immediately confirmed as Max and then Bill drilled through their own fingers then just got back up the ladder to continue what they were doing with band aid or electrical tape to stop the bleeding, using the little dots of blood as a kind of laser level guide to the next fixing point.

There were more dropped balls than the Chicago Cubs, but lets focus in on one:

Something that was forgotten at the gallery preview on Tuesday night was the tip jar. MAX – a mad proponent of the book – reminded us what a great idea it was – so we placed a jar at the vodka Red Bull table and were rewarded $68 for our efforts! So, you would ASSume that Max and all of us would be all over this idea for the gallery opening in Baltimore a few days later…….it wasn’t until afterwards that I remembered – we were all stunned at how this could be possible – but it IS – that’s the point – little things get lost and fall through the cracks. So, here’s where it gets to unbelievable proportions – the next night at a DJ event (also in Baltimore) merch did 4 or 500 bucks………..the tip jar was forgotten again.

I know, these guys are smart and I don’t think I’m a complete idiot, but it happened two days in a row with 4 people involved………….there was a suggestion made of a checklist – and that’s a good one. But the space suit analogy is a good one to go with, its difficult to move, your limbs don’t work in the same way after a few days and your always smelling your own bad gas.
