Reggies and a Gallery!
Yesterday we had the opportunity to tour Reggies Music Joint in Chinatown. It is such a unique venue in comparison to many others in Chicago. Reggies has two stages, as well as a record store upstairs. Elle, the talent buyer, gave us the tour as well as briefly describing her job. It was great to talk to someone with 10 years of experience in booking and what factors come in to play when deciding to book a band. It was so refreshing to see the amount of vinyl that they stock and the vastness of the genres provided (operas on vinyl anyone?) After our tour, we had dinner at Reggies (the wings are excellent!) and all of us were able to sit down and talk.
Today we are working on gallery prep. As I am sitting on my lazy ass, the students in the next room are hanging shit, cleaning up, and shrink wrapping CD’s. Even though this is a gallery preview (Martin has a gallery showing in Baltimore,) I didn’t realize the amount of prep work involved. Right now I’m in the midst of creating a slide show for tonight. If you don’t have any plans tonight, RSVP to our event, it starts at 7!
